Scripture: Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.  Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

I preached on this text on Sunday, but neglected to say, it is one of my favorites.  It's also the one I work on most.  How does one stay faithful even when times are difficult?  When questions remain unanswered or desires fulfilled.  It's hard enough to hold fast when things are going well, but when things turn south ...  Within this text is the idea of lingering while lingering.  What I mean is, during the time when things seem to be on hold, try resting in the moment.  Jesus taught us that all our fretting and worrying won't change a thing (Matthew 6: 25-30).  Worse yet, it has been proven time and again anxiety worsen the situation in every respect.  Can we live a worry free life?  Probably not, but it is good to keep in mind what effects it has on our lives, and the lives of others.  But maybe we can work at lingering while lingering a bit.  We can go along with the delays in a way that nurtures hope and possibilities?  Rather than burning up in our frustration, we use the time to rethink the situation, find alternate paths of progress, and/or make alternate plans.  We may feel that doing so is compromising our position, but giving up or acting in ways that inhibit progress won't help either.  How many times have you burned bridges thinking you were accomplishing something only to realize it left you on the other side.  Sometimes, as with this text, it is in the lingering that we grow.  Israel needed to grow.  They needed to reclaim their faith and identity in God.  Sometimes, God puts us on hold because we need to spend time in the Spirit rethinking and re-evaluating our lives and what is important.  God will fulfill his promises (2 Peter 3:9).  God does not need us making demands and complaining while doing so.  Honestly, that kind of attitude may be what got us in trouble.  So, as the LORD is patient with us (Psalm 103:8), let us work on being patient and loving too.  Lingering while we linger with God.I

God’s Peace,

Pastor Brian
