Scripture: 2 Corinthians 2: 14-16 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.
What an amazing expression shared with us today by Paul. Think about all that you experience when you walk into a coffee shop or a bakery. The warmth, the aroma embraces you and lifts your spirit. Paul is saying today that our life in Christ should have that effect on those we encounter. Not all will experience it. To those who are perishing, and wish to stay that way, they will be repelled. Let's face it, not everybody likes the smell of fresh bread. But to the one who is alive in Christ, or seeking to be, it will encourage them even more along their way. Is that the effect you have on people? If so, great! If not, why? And I do not say that in a judgmental way, but what's going on in you that makes this difficult? Look how Paul further develops his thought by saying that our life in Christ, our aroma to God, is pleasing. What a wonderful thought! Amidst all that God experiences on this earth. God's glorious creation of harmony and perfection that is being destroyed and corrupted in so many ways. God can take pleasure in you who live for Christ. Take time to read this text over a few times. The Spirit will continue to work in you as you do. Know that God is always leading you toward your best self in Christ (John 10:10). If you are willing to follow Christ's leadership (Mt 11:29-30), it will be a process of growth that allows you to overcome the problems and obstacles you encounter along the way.
Pray with me.., Holy God, sometimes we get lost in all that we need from You and forget what You need from us. What You call us to be. Your blessings bless us and those around us and for that we are thankful. Hear us as we pray for our family and loved ones. Bless the according to their needs and bless our church, so we can be the people You call us to be, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
God's peace,
Pastor Brian
