Devotional - September 2, 2026

Scripture: Psalm 119: 105  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Over the past several weeks, I did a lot of travelling.  I enjoyed getting to know the new safety and guidance features on my car. Well, new to me.  We have come a long way.  With the push of a button, I could get my route calculated and even see alternative routes that were available to me.  I could tell what was available at the next exit like food, gas, or lodging.  It even warned me of upcoming traffic issues or police.  I am sure many of you already use these devices and have for years. Not for me, my previous can was ten years old when I finally parted with it. I still think it was too soon.  My favorite features were a little more immediate to my driving experience like cruise control and alerts letting me know if other cars were in my blind-spots.  One morning, I got in my car and took off down the road only to find that none of these features were displayed before me.  Everything went out, all I had was my speedometer and the icon for the headlights.  A notice appeared saying all the other features were disconnected.  I thought, hhmmm.  The car was running fine and everything was in good order, so I kept going.  I knew my location and what roads I needed to take, but it felt odd.  There were no lighted displays, color-coated images or maps, or that nice lady telling me my next directive.  But at least I was not lost.  And so it is with God, because of God's Word I know who I am (my location) and where I am going.  At times in life, I know a lot about my situation and at other times I know very little.  Either way, because of Christ, I know what I need to know (Colossians 2:9). I am not lost.  Folks, we may not know what the future holds for us, this world, or even tomorrow (Matthew 6:34, 1 Peter 5: 6-7), but we can claim what we have in Christ today. We are not lost, even if we feel like we are or at least a bit odd.  We know who we are in Christ (Romans 10: 9-10, Galatians 2:20) and that the Lord will never leave us (Matthew 28:20), and with that we can be at peace (John 14:27).

Pray with me..., Holy God we are thankful that You are with us, continue to manifest Your image in our being.  Help us to trust You knowing You will not leave us.  Hear our prayers for our loved ones.  We ask Your blessing upon them in accordance with their needs.  And hear our prayers for our church, lead us O God, so we can be the blessing You call us to be, in Jesus' name, Amen.
